July Open Networking Session Takeaways
We had a solid turn out for our July Open Networking sessions offered to our AMER (including LATAM), EMEA and APAC regions. Instructors gathered to connect and discuss their Udemy strategies, touching on marketing/promotion tactics, social media tips, UB Priority topic efforts, driving traffic from YouTube to Udemy courses, and course localization strategies.
Here were a few key learnings shared by attendees:
- When marketing your course, it is very important to highlight the main outcome the student/learner will achieve by taking your course
- Review / edit your Lecture & Section titles to ensure detailed topic tagging to increase visibility in search results and for potential inclusion in Learning Paths
- ChatGPT/AI is not always reliable - always conduct a human review of the output if you choose to use it
- Leverage your Performance Dashboard to see where UB learners are joining / rejoining your courses to better support those learners mid-course
- Add additional material to UB Courses, and follow it up with an Educational Announcement (for learners who have this feature enabled) - this may increase engagement and revenue
- Marketing courses is very time consuming and doesnβt always yield a strong ROI; many instructors shared in their breakout discussion that they decided to forgo in the interest of investing in new or existing course content
- Take advantage of the UB Priority Topic List Application to submit ideas for UB courses that could get you a course bonus for creating
- Outsourcing editing is the way to go; you can find someone for $10-$15 / hour through Upwork
- Consider partnering with an Instructor who speaks a different language but has your topic area expertise on a shared course
And finally, here were a few questions or themes that could use some more digging into in future Open Networking sessions or by our team.
- Course Length - Are shorter or longer courses better for UB learners?
- UB Priority Topics - Shed more light on the criteria for the topics that are included in this list
- Marketing guidance for UB - how can instructors influence course marketing within UB?
Thank you to all our event attendees; we hope to see you back, as well as new folks, at the next event series in October!
