Udemy Business Content Opportunities Tool
One of the top requests we hear from Instructor Partners is a desire for further insight on what to teach and what subjects are needed for Udemy Business. You can find a list of content Udemy Business customers and learners are looking for in the Udemy Business Content Opportunities tool. The Udemy Business Content team has transitioned from quarterly to ongoing updates throughout the quarter. Continue to check the tool and use the filter and sorting options where you can sort by ‘Newest’ and narrow down to your domains of interest.
Financial Incentive and Course Proposal Application
As valued Instructor Partners, you have access to IP-only benefits including the opportunity to apply for course creation financial incentives and to propose new course ideas for expedited inclusion into Udemy Business. In order to be considered for a financial incentive or to propose a new course idea, you will need to fill out an application and be approved by the Udemy Business Content team prior to creating the course.
You should only submit an application if you are interested in creating a new course*. If you are awarded a financial incentive or curation guarantee, we typically set a target publication timeline of about 3 months.
- Financial Incentives: For select opportunities in the Udemy Business Content Opportunities tool , we may be able to offer a financial incentive upon publication of a relevant course. This is in addition to any earnings the course generates once available on the Udemy platform. Opportunities eligible for consideration are noted in the tool with a ‘Financial Incentive’ label. You may apply for financial incentive consideration for up to 2 opportunities per application.
- Course Proposals: If there is a subject you want to teach that is not on the list, or an idea that’s been on your mind, you can use the same application to submit up to 1 course proposal per application for consideration. These new course ideas will be considered for expedited inclusion in Udemy Business and the Content Team will inform you of the decision.
Ultimately, the Curation team makes the final decision on all courses added to UB and there may be instances where a course is created for an opportunity listed in UBCO and is not added to UB. Particularly if there are concerns about quality or escalations from our UB customers, our Curation team can make exceptions to any of these Instructor Partner benefits.
*If you have already published a course that fits one of the opportunities in the Udemy Business Content Opportunities tool, please review the Instructor Partner course inclusion benefit article. If you are uploading a course that fits one of the opportunities, please review how to link your course draft to an opportunity during course creation.
Each instructor may submit one application per calendar month. Udemy is not responsible for any lost, late, undeliverable, or incomplete applications. Submitting an application does not guarantee acceptance or payment for this opportunity. Without an application, please note that you waive your eligibility for a financial incentive or guaranteed expedited inclusion.
Frequently Asked Questions
Please review the Udemy Business Content Opportunities FAQs in the Teaching Center for further information about the tool. We’ve shared a few Instructor Partner-specific notes below:
- I already have a published course that covers a subject shown in the tool. Should I still apply with that course information?
- Please only apply for subjects that you have not yet created a course for. If you already have a published course that covers one of the subjects and was published within the last 90 days, the Udemy Business Curation team will review it in the weekly review of Instructor Partner courses. The Curation team will also continue to monitor the Marketplace and consider courses that are relevant to these subjects. More information about your course inclusion benefits as an Instructor Partner may be found here.
- I missed the application deadline, can I still apply for an incentive or create a course?
- We are currently piloting an extended application window. If you submit your application past 8 AM PT on the application submission day listed in the chart above, you will not receive a decision until the next month’s decision release date. Once we finalize our review of all submitted applications, we will consider any remaining opportunities. If there is an opportunity to offer additional financial incentives at that time or if we believe there may be an opportunity that is a good fit for an instructor, the team may then reach out to instructors individually to discuss course creation opportunities.
- Do I have to apply to create a course if it doesn't have a 'Financial incentive' badge?
- If there is a course subject on the opportunities list that interests you but is not eligible for an incentive, you may move forward with creating that course and should not submit an application. The application is reserved for courses listed as eligible for incentive in the Udemy Business Content Opportunities tool or for brand new course ideas of you're own that you'd like to propose. New course ideas should be on subjects that are not already reflected in the tool.
- When you go through the course creation flow, we ask that you link the new course to the opportunity you see in the tool. You'll see an option to link it after selecting your anticipated course category. When you link a course to an opportunity during course creation, the draft course will then display the "content opportunity" tag in your instructor dashboard course list. Once that course is published, it will automatically be surfaced to the Curation team for expedited review for inclusion. The team will be able to see that you made the course with the intention of addressing that specific content opportunity.
